When thinking back on his 10+ year career as a developer, manager, and founder, Andrii Bovsunovskyi laughs: “I don’t know why, but I kept getting drawn back into the same story: a great idea that solves a real problem, with an MVP or V1 that people love and that has to be completely rewritten so the company can scale.”

Andrii’s early experience with company building began when he was still a university student studying computer science in Kyiv. He launched a series of startups, since “I saw that there were lots of opportunities, so I launched the first… and then the second… and then the third… they all failed successfully!” 😂

Towards the end of his studies, he worked on a project with “kind of a Ukrainian Amazon.” That was when he clearly saw that great companies don’t arise because of a perfect technical solution, but because of people and how they communicate with each other. “That first job made me see why it’s so important to put a lot of time into the hiring process and communicating with team members. It’s not just about technical stuff, but also about how people are feeling, their emotions within the job.”

At the same time, by now he’s figured out that there’s a reason he keeps going back into early-stage startups and doing the hard work to build both solutions and teams that can grow quickly.

“I went to work for a big telecoms company here in Ukraine once, that lasted about six months. But from the very start, I knew it wasn’t going to work out. The job was so siloed, just ‘Do this task, then you get another task, and another,’. There wasn’t any way to have a global view of why engineering was working on these tasks, there wasn’t any vision of what other departments were doing.”

That doesn’t fit someone who likes to strategize about the big picture, manage teams effectively, and one day look back and see that he’s been a key part of building a company that makes it to a successful IPO.

“I’m not going to be satisfied with just getting to 1M active users and then sitting around, cashing checks and driving around in a Porsche. Some people are perfectly fine with that, but I really want to figure out how to keep taking things to the next level.”

When he met OrderCast co-founders Borys Turii and Ayoub Assabban, he felt that they had that same level of ambition. And as he found himself at a personal and professional turning point, in no small part brought on by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he decided to seize the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new startup adventure.

“In the end, speaking with Borys and Ayoub, it was clear that their ambition and vision for OrderCast is on another level, much bigger than I’ve had with previous startup experiences. And that’s why I decided to join, because our ambition levels match up really well.”
